The VLP is made up of two French artists: Michael Espagnon and Jean Gabaret. VLP stands for “Vive La Peinture” (Long live painting) - what could be more explicit ? These two are not afraid to show their true colors...
The VLP is a true product of the Punk era: iconoclastic, electric, frenetic and prolific. There is a surprising modernism up to today when they claim: our message is our attitude, our way of being. Spurred on by the sounds of the Clash or the Cure, these two artists let their imagination go wild. You can find them using a chainsaw to chop up a fence that they just painted, so that they can give little pieces away in plastic bags, or reinterpreting and transforming adverts in the underground stations.
The VLP has been an icon in the painting world over the last 20 years and they really owed it to themselves to expose their work in an actual book. That has now been done. Through the work of these artists, we discover new vitality in painting, a connection with rock music and an activity that uses the most diverse supports: from the Parisian catacombs to art galleries. In short: long live painting!
